Hi Ladies, thank you so much for joining me! I've been trying to get motivated all Fall to develop better fitness habits, and it's not easy. If you're life is anything like mine, you've also experienced one (or more) of these challenges- motivation, time, over-commitment, energy, laziness, snack cravings, health, busyness with kids, and more.
One of my problems is that I've been trying to do this on my own. But I've realized that I really need encouragement and accountability from other ladies. Especially right now with the holidays coming, it can be so easy to gain weight. Instead of gaining three pounds this holiday season, I would love to start start 2013 with some better new habits. It's a perfect time to get started! (P.S. That doesn't mean I'm planning on skipping out on Christmas cookies! I'll talk about that in a future post.)
Health and Fitness include so many aspects- food and diet, water, exercise, and living an active healthy lifestyle. I'm going to put these different parts all together and to simply, just call this a Fitness Group. So when I mention fitness, it means ALL those things, not just weight loss, even though that happens to be one of my particular goals.
Many people believe that it takes about 60 days to build a habit. What great timing, so we can continue through the holidays, and a month into the new year. So our dates are:
Monday Dec. 3- Sunday Feb. 3rd
Let's focus on one week at a time! I'll be posting every Monday to encourage you, and give us a group focus for the week.
Here's how I'd like for this to work:
1. Comment on this first Monday post by:
Introducing Yourself
Briefly share Your fitness "Story"
Share your overall Fitness Goals
If you know me (Taylor), maybe add "I know Taylor from _____" or share how you found this Fitness group.
(Use the Comment part below the post. After you comment it will say "Google Profile or Select Profile". If you don't have a Google ID, ect. just use the drop down, for the option Name/URL, and just put your name in, no URL necessary.)
2. Read each new Monday post at the beginning of the week.
3. Use the Monday posts to share your own thoughts and encouragements, pray for and support each other!
I look forward to being in this group with you. Look for My Story (below), and post your own story and greeting to the group.
-Taylor
My Story:
I was relatively fit in high school, involved in school sports, though I found out when I was 17 that I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (google it more more info), which can contribute to weight gain. When I went away to college I got busy and basically stopped exercising. I gained the freshman fifteen, then the sophomore fifteen...oh dear, then a little more. I was unhealthy with both my diet and exercise for most of my 20s (I'm 31). Many times I've tried to "start exercising" again, but have not followed through. In May I had our second baby, and now I especially need to make some changes to take my health seriously. My fitness goals are to start exercising regularly, lose weight, improve my diet and overall health.
My name is Cora and I am friends with Taylor from Oak Harbor. I have a 26mo old son and 8mo old daughter. We moved 5 times in the last 2 years (midwest to east coast to west coast and a few moves in town). My husband is currently deployed with the Navy so I moved back to Oak Harbor to be near family. I keep very busy with the kids but have not gotten into a good exercise routine. I've never been a gymrat. I have walked lots but with the weather turned its harder to get out. I have been working on cooking more, eating healthy real foods and cutting out more and more processed foods. I have been working to improve overall health of my household with real food, natural cleaners, and home remedies. Though I am back down to just below pre-pregnancies weight, things have shifted and my goal is to work on toning up and implementing a simple exersize routine into daily life. I want to look good for my man when he returns. :) I welcome tips, advice, and definitely encouragement.
ReplyDeleteHi Cora, thanks for being the first person to post! Wow, I know that you've been moving a lot, but I didn't realize that it was 5 times in 2 years! Totally hard to develop any kind of routine! Do you ever use free weights? I've used either 5 lbs or 8 lbs, and love how I feel after using them. Recently discovered Youtube workout videos (Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred), cause it's free and portable! I don't have time to leave the house to exercise often either.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'll be very honest, I've did that workout 3 times in Nov, and can only get through about 12 mins before almost dying! That's how out of shape I am right now.
ReplyDeleteI tried Jillian's 30 day shred a long time ago. I think I got thru 10 days (not in a row) and it hurt! :-) I did Kettleworx when Jeremiah was about 3mos old. I did the 6 weeks at first no weight, then a 2lb weight ball. I was going to repeat it with an actual kettlebell but never did buy a 5lb one. (we had a 10lb and that was way to much for me at the time). I mostly do moves using my own weight for resistance. I don't like programs that you have to have a lot of equipment. I've done some pilates and indoor walking workouts.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Anne and I have been friends with Taylor for... a while! =) I am married to a just-got-out sailor and mom to a 4 year old little boy who could give the energizer a run for his money and a sweet little angel girl of 3 years. My fitness story WAS good, really fit all through high school and on until I got married and gained 10 lbs. Lost most of it then got preggo. Thats when my story changes, haha. Before I could lost any of the baby weight God surprised us and I have been unable to get rid of any of the weight, have actually gained some. I am now heavier than I was when I was preggo, want to lose a few sizes, get rid of about 10-15 pounds at least, and lose this belly that has people asking if I am expecting gain, haha! Ironically, we eat healthier now than we ever have, smaller portions (easy to do when you use a smaller plate and refuse yourself seconds) and have cut out all the processed crud and that sort of stuff. My biggest challenges, besides finding time, are a severe lack of motivation unless I have someone keeping me going and the fact that exercise often brings on stress migraines. I'm looking forward to getting the Prayfit dvd, our church uses it for the after service "bootcamp" and it is fantastic if anyone wants to check it out. 30 minutes a day, fast paced, but you can definitely make it through the whole workout, and best of all it is faith based, so you get encouragement as you get fit. So, good luck to you gals and here goes! Cant wait to slim down so I can use these Maurices gift cards! =D
ReplyDeleteHi Anne, thanks so much for sharing! Isn't it funny, you and I chat maybe once a week or so on FB, but I don't think we've ever talked about fitness. It's good to be able to stop and just focus on one thing for awhile. Yeah, I think that's probably so common with women, after we have babies, our bodies are never quite the same. I "weigh" the same as pre-baby, but my body is definitely worse off. Pretty convinced that I have more fat on my body, less muscle, ect. I've never heard of the Prayfit dvd, cool, thanks for sharing, I'll have to look into it.
ReplyDeleteSo Cora and Anne, have we all done any exercise since Monday? Eek, I haven't yet! I'm going to try to do some today, then I'll let you know when I do!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try and get in a workout while the kids nap (if they nap, I should say!). With Brandon not being here during that time, maybe it'll be easier. .. I hope!
ReplyDeleteK, I did some weight lifting for 10 mins...not great, but better than nothing. Been a busy day, sigh!
ReplyDeleteI did some air squats and indoor walking moves on Monday. I try to just keep moving for at least 10min or more. I should do this everyday. Jeremiah sometimes tries to copy me. Its cute. I find it hard though when I try to do any push ups or plank etc because Jeremiah wants to climb all over me. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Anne. Welcome to the group.
Yeah, good job everyone! Something every day is so much better than nothing. That's what I always try to remind myself, haha when things get busy!
